HIV Prevention Nurse

About the role

The HIV Prevention Nurse will join the Victorian HIV Service team to provide outpatient care for individuals seeking pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) who do not have Medicare access. This fixed‑term role (until 31 Dec 2027) operates within a nurse‑led model of care, supporting the broader goal of eliminating HIV transmission in Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Triaging, assessing and managing patients requesting PrEP without Medicare coverage.
• Coordinating and delivering post‑exposure prophylaxis (PEP) assessments and follow‑up.
• Providing education, counselling and ongoing clinical support to patients.
• Documenting clinical encounters and maintaining accurate patient records.
• Collaborating with a small multidisciplinary nursing team to ensure high‑quality care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse, Grade 3, with current registration.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Patient‑centred approach with respect for cultural diversity.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Professional demeanor and commitment to continuous learning.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HIV prevention strategies, including PrEP and PEP.
• Experience in sexual health or infectious disease nursing.
• Clinical assessment and triage capabilities.
