Histology Technician I

About the role

The Histology Technician I supports the Veterinary Medicine Pathobiology department by preparing animal tissue specimens for microscopic analysis. This full‑time position in College Station, TX offers an hourly wage of $15.85 and may require work on university holidays or weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort, and prioritize tissue specimens from surgical, diagnostic, and necropsy cases.
• Perform embedding, microtome cutting, slide mounting, staining, and coverslipping procedures.
• Conduct quality‑control checks on slides and blocks before delivery to pathologists.
• Communicate with pathologists and residents to answer questions and track case status.
• Monitor submission queues, handle slide checkout requests, and document QC results.
• Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instruments according to TAMU safety policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; two years of related laboratory experience.
• Comfortable working with hazardous chemicals, including known carcinogens.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and HT (ASCP) certification.
