HES Manager

About the role

The HES Manager is responsible for protecting Yara's human and fixed assets by ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations across West Coast U.S. operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the HES program for North America facilities, focusing on continuous improvement and employee safety culture.
• Audit owned and third‑party facilities and capital projects for compliance with federal, state, local regulations and industry best practices such as HAZOP.
• Provide training, support, and cross‑functional communication to facility personnel.
• Act as the expert resource for EHS regulatory compliance, handling incident follow‑up and documentation.
• Conduct CalOSHA, CalEPA, CARB, USCG and other agency training, and serve as the security compliance officer for Coast Guard interactions.
• Monitor safety performance reports, track EHS metrics, and benchmark against industry standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Change Management or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Professional EHS certification (CSP, CHMM, OHST, etc.).
• 7‑10 years of HES management experience, preferably in production or warehousing within California.
• Strong knowledge of California compliance regulations; fertilizer industry experience is a plus.
• US citizenship or lawful permanent residency; US passport and TWIC required.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Strong auditing, incident investigation, root‑cause analysis, and safety data trend analysis skills.
