Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

The company is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a range of heavy machinery on civil, industrial and wind projects. You will perform land clearing, excavation, grading and underground utility work while adhering to safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Promote and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
• Operate front‑end loaders, motor graders, excavators, dozers, scrapers, tractors, track hoes, skid pans, trenchers and other light/medium equipment.
• Build level or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces for various project types.
• Drive equipment with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation and rocks, and to level earth.
• Gather and load dirt, stone, equipment and waste onto trucks.
• Excavate trenches with proper slopes according to OSHA standards.
• Coordinate machine actions with crew signals and communicate clearly on‑site.
• Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines and complete daily maintenance reports.
• Travel to different job sites on short notice and perform additional duties as assigned by the superintendent or foreman.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of related experience, with at least 1 year operating heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of health and safety programs and participation in daily toolbox meetings.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals.
• Basic math skills for measurements, weight and volume calculations.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.
• Physical capability to work up to 12‑hour shifts in demanding conditions.

Required skills

• Operation of front‑end loaders (4 CY or greater).
• Operation of motor graders.
• Operation of excavators (20‑ton class or larger).
• Operation of dozers, scrapers, tractors, track hoes, skid pans and trenchers.
• Routine equipment maintenance (cleaning, greasing, oiling).
• Basic measurement and calculation abilities.
