Health Team Intern – Client Transportation & Support

About the role

The Health Team Intern will support the International Rescue Committee’s Health Team in Charlottesville by helping refugees and other clients access medical, dental, and vision care. This unpaid, fall‑2026 position offers hands‑on experience in client transportation, care coordination, and health‑related administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide transportation for clients and their families to medical, dental, and vision appointments using a personal vehicle.
• Conduct a transit orientation to teach clients how to use local public transportation for health appointments.
• Assist the Health Team with phone calls, filing, collecting signed paperwork, and scheduling medical appointments.
• Support clients with prescription assistance, medical bill queries, and other ad‑hoc health needs.
• Record hours and submit monthly timesheets via the IRC Volunteer Dashboard.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in serving refugee communities.
• Respect for diverse beliefs, values, and cultural backgrounds.
• Ownership of a reliable car, a valid driver’s license, and car insurance.
• Willingness to use personal vehicle for client transport and to adapt to flexible schedules.
• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, the Charlottesville public transportation system.
