Health Education & Promotion Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a motivated Health Education and Promotion Intern to support its Refugee Health Program in New York City. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience with refugee resettlement services, health education, and public benefits navigation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Healthcare Benefit Navigators and Caseworkers with screening and enrollment for the Refugee Health Program.
• Connect clients to mental health, physical healthcare, and benefit services.
• Develop and deliver educational materials and workshops on public benefits and health topics.
• Collaborate on updating a Community Resources Guide through research and outreach.
• Create, test, and implement assessment tools measuring client knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs.
• Maintain accurate case files, spreadsheets, and digital client records.
• Adhere to IRC confidentiality and privacy policies.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for client beliefs and values.
• Provide translation and interpretation services when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
