Head Start Teacher

About the role

The Head Start Teacher is responsible for creating and delivering individualized and group educational plans for preschool children, fostering their social‑emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Working under the Center Director or Manager of Education & Inclusion, you will manage daily classroom operations and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans and activities that promote readiness for school.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
• Build effective relationships with children, families, and staff.
• Maintain accurate paper and electronic records, ensuring confidentiality.
• Conduct observations, assessments, and screenings; keep a comprehensive portfolio for each child.
• Supervise Teacher Assistants, Program Aides, and Volunteers, supporting their skill development.
• Provide constant supervision during indoor and outdoor activities, including playground safety.
• Collaborate with the Center Director on important issues and program quality.

Required profile

• Experience working with preschool‑aged children.
• Ability to develop individualized educational plans.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant classroom environment.
• Strong record‑keeping and documentation skills.
