Head Operator – Power Plant Operations

About the role

The Head Operator leads safe, efficient and reliable operation of power plant equipment, coordinating plant operators and maintenance teams to ensure optimal performance and compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, inspect and monitor gas turbine/generator, feedwater & condensate systems, fuel systems, boiler equipment, water treatment and emissions monitoring systems.
• Execute tag‑out/lock‑out procedures in line with NRG policies.
• Observe operating conditions, read meters and gauges, and troubleshoot equipment to resolve issues.
• Identify safety hazards and enforce protective guidelines for personnel and the public.
• Mentor junior staff on proper operating procedures.
• Record operational data, generate work requests, and delegate work orders for preventive maintenance.
• Implement emergency procedures and operate computer systems for data analysis.
• Maintain a clean work area and use appropriate respiratory protection.

Required profile

• Proven experience overseeing plant operations in a power generation environment.
• Strong understanding of safety and environmental regulations.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Comfort working around rotating equipment, high‑voltage systems and high‑noise conditions.
