Head of IT and Cybersecurity

About the role

TRL11, Inc. is seeking a hands‑on leader to build and scale its IT and cybersecurity functions. You will shape security, compliance, and internal systems for a venture‑backed startup developing advanced video technology for space and aerospace/defense applications.

Key responsibilities

• Build out the IT and cybersecurity functions from the ground up.
• Own and maintain the system security plan.
• Prepare for and achieve CMMC Level 2 certification with a C3PAO.
• Design, integrate, and manage business systems.
• Provide basic IT help‑desk support while the team grows.
• Scale the IT and cybersecurity teams as the business expands.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in information management systems, computer science, or a related field.
• Experience at hardware‑ and software‑focused companies, scaling IT and cybersecurity in small environments.
• Leadership or major contributor experience in IT or cybersecurity, especially in compliance‑heavy settings.
• Hands‑on expertise with enterprise IT infrastructure, security tooling, cloud environments, identity and access management, cloud security, and DevOps practices.
• Strong knowledge of CMMC, NIST 800‑171, FedRAMP, Agile practices, and NIST SP 800‑218.
• Proven ability to work with leadership, auditors, assessors, customers, engineering, and operations stakeholders.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
• ISO 12207 experience is a plus; CISSP, CISM, or Security+ preferred.
