Head of Content Strategy, Communications

About the role

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is seeking a senior leader to shape and execute its content strategy across all communications channels. Reporting to the Communications Director, the Head of Content Strategy, Communications will define the editorial voice, oversee content production, and ensure the organization’s mission is conveyed consistently to diverse audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive editorial strategy that aligns with organizational priorities and expands reach.
• Manage the brand voice, messaging guidelines, and editorial calendar across digital, print, and multimedia platforms.
• Oversee creation of articles, reports, blog posts, newsletters, digital ads, and social media copy, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
• Lead a team of writers, digital specialists, and social media staff, providing mentorship and performance oversight.
• Collaborate with program, development, and leadership teams to translate complex policy and research into compelling narratives.
• Maintain editorial standards, fact‑checking, and ethical storytelling practices.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience leading content strategy and editorial teams, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
• Strong ability to simplify complex issues into clear, engaging content for varied audiences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a commitment to mission‑driven storytelling.
