Head of Build Reliability

About the role

Impulse Space is looking for a Head of Build Reliability in Redondo Beach, California. As the organizational leader and authority for quality, you will own the vision and execution of the quality management ecosystem across all vehicle programs, partnering with executive leadership and engineering heads so that rapid production timelines are met while keeping product reliability high.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, mentor and scale a world-class Build Reliability engineering and inspection department, set departmental KPIs, manage budgets and align resources with build schedules.
• Partner with engineering and manufacturing to identify and mitigate build risks early, ensuring designs and processes are producible, inspectable and capable of meeting requirements.
• Serve as the Quality Management System (QMS) representative to implement and sustain AS9100 certification, lead Management Review and represent the organization in external regulatory audits and aerospace customer quality audits.
• Work as a peer with engineering and production leadership on quality improvement projects that improve both vehicle reliability and manufacturing throughput.
• Drive the capital expenditure strategy for sourcing, deploying and validating advanced quality inspection.
• Lead build reliability improvements across vehicle programs as manufacturing scales from prototype to high-rate production.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years in a fast-paced manufacturing, quality, build reliability or design engineering role.
• Demonstrated experience building or optimizing a quality management system.
• A hands-on approach to setting up quality systems and solving quality problems.

Preferred skills and experience

• 10+ years in a quality engineering leadership role on launch vehicles, spacecraft or satellites.
• Success leading an organization through a full-scope AS9100 certification audit.
• Technical writing skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, production and other teams.

What we offer

• Stated pay range of $185,000 - $225,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and market data.
