About the role
The Hazard Waste Specialist supports the Biohazard Team at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences by ensuring safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and medical waste. This position is open to current UAMS employees, including student employees and graduate assistants, and contributes directly to compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the collection, segregation, labeling, and disposal of hazardous and medical waste in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and UAMS policies.
- Maintain accurate waste tracking records and generate required reports for regulatory agencies.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Provide training and guidance to staff and students on proper waste handling and emergency response procedures.
- Coordinate with external waste disposal vendors and ensure timely pickup and documentation.
Required profile
- Current employee of UAMS (including student employees or graduate assistants) with access to Workday.
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
- Relevant education or experience in environmental health, occupational safety, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict regulatory guidelines.
