Guardianship and Elder Law Associate Attorney

About the role

abramslaw is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Guardianship and Elder Law Department. The position is based in the Lake Success office and involves full‑time, on‑site work supporting elderly clients, individuals with developmental disabilities, and families navigating long‑term care planning.

Key responsibilities

• Draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents for guardianship and elder‑law matters.
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on Medicaid planning, eligibility, and public‑benefits advocacy.
• Appear regularly in Surrogate’s Court, Supreme Court, and other venues, both remotely and in person.
• Handle contested and uncontested Article 81 guardianship proceedings.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff to develop innovative legal solutions.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active New York State law license.
• Preferably 4+ years of experience in guardianship, elder law, Medicaid planning, or a related practice area.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong judgment and professionalism.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive, collaborative team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
