Groundskeeper – Douglas Campus

About the role

The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the outdoor areas of the Douglas Campus, ensuring that lawns, gardens, parking lots, and other grounds are safe, attractive, and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Mow grass, trim weeds, and operate large power lawn mowers, edgers, and hand tools (approximately 50% of time).
• Assess grounds for planting needs, lay sod, seed, bulbs, apply mulch, pine straw, herbicides, and pesticides (about 20%).
• Maintain and repair grounds‑maintenance equipment (10%).
• Shovel and remove snow and ice from roofs, sidewalks, and entryways, and collect trash for disposal (10%).
• Perform asphalt repairs and maintain parking lot surfaces (5%).
• Perform other assigned duties as needed (5%).

Required profile

• Knowledge of basic horticulture and grounds‑keeping practices.
• Ability to operate, maintain, and repair grounds‑maintenance equipment and vehicles.
• Strong problem‑analysis skills and ability to implement solutions.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Capability to work outdoors in extreme weather and perform physically demanding tasks.
