Graduate Assistant – Advanced Rocketry & Satellite Labs

About the role

The Roy G. Perry College of Engineering is hiring two graduate student workers to support the Advanced Rocketry and Satellite Labs. The role provides technical, research, mentoring and operational assistance for student projects in rocketry, CubeSat development, embedded systems, testing and outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, set up and operate the Advanced Rocketry and Satellite Labs.
• Assist with rocket design, modeling, assembly, testing, documentation, safety procedures and launch preparation.
• Support satellite and CubeSat subsystem development, sensors, communications, power, structures, embedded software and data acquisition.
• Provide technical guidance to undergraduate lab workers and maintain lab equipment, inventory and safety compliance.
• Perform prototyping, 3D printing, soldering, wiring, electronics and mechanical assembly, as well as troubleshooting.
• Contribute to research activities, data collection, analysis, literature reviews, technical reports and presentations.
• Help organize workshops, training sessions, industry visits and K‑12 STEM outreach.

Required profile

• Current graduate student enrolled in an engineering or related program.
• Ability to work onsite in the Prairie View, Texas lab environment.
• Strong attention to safety and documentation standards.
