Government General Counsel

About the role

The Government General Counsel provides senior legal leadership for a government‑focused business unit, guiding strategy and ensuring compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations. This role partners with senior executives to protect the organization’s interests while enabling mission‑critical initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret federal, state and local laws, regulations and government directives that affect operations, programs and contracts.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise on proactive compliance strategies.
• Develop, implement and maintain legal policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Lead investigations of potential compliance issues and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits and examinations.
• Serve as the primary liaison with government agencies, preparing legal responses, filings and reports.
• Support enterprise‑wide compliance initiatives, audits and risk‑mitigation efforts.

Required profile

• Senior legal professional with extensive experience in government‑related matters.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply complex statutes and regulations.
• Strong track record of developing compliance policies and overseeing their implementation.
• Experience acting as the main point of contact with regulatory bodies.
• Excellent judgment and ability to advise senior leadership on legal risk.
