General Liability Attorney – In‑House Risk Management

About the role

Publix Super Markets is seeking an experienced General Liability Attorney to join its corporate legal team. This in‑house position will embed you within the business, allowing you to directly influence risk management across retail operations in eight states.

Key responsibilities

• Manage defense of customer, consumer, and public lawsuits from within the company.
• Oversee liability matters including premises, fleet, pharmacy, and product claims.
• Develop and refine internal litigation processes and policies.
• Provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
• Control legal costs and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
• Monitor legal trends and regulatory changes affecting operations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and contracts.
• Mentor junior legal staff and promote a culture of excellence.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor and active bar admission in any U.S. state.
• 5+ years of litigation experience in tort and personal injury defense, including trial experience, or 3 years litigation plus 2 years managing corporate liability claims.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience in an in‑house corporate legal or insurance setting is preferred.
• Familiarity with risk management, claims adjusting, and insurance financials.
