Full Stack Software Engineer – Quantum Computing

About the role

IBM Research’s Quantum team is looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to build high‑performance, scalable Python applications that power quantum‑computing research. You will work alongside scientists and engineers to turn cutting‑edge ideas into production‑ready software.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement high‑performance, scalable Python code for compute‑intensive applications.
• Analyze, refactor, and optimise large, complex Python codebases.
• Develop efficient algorithms and data structures and evaluate their performance.
• Identify and resolve CPU, memory, and I/O bottlenecks using profiling and benchmarking tools.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and researchers on performance‑critical components.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, testability and promote best‑practice adoption.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related field.
• Proven experience optimizing Python libraries and performance‑critical Python code.
• Strong background in algorithms, data structures and complexity analysis.
• Experience with large, legacy or long‑lived codebases.
• Knowledge of C/C++ or Rust integration and low‑level systems programming.
