Full-Stack Software Engineer (Frontend Focus)

About the role

The Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (MTech) at the University of Maryland is seeking a Full‑Stack Software Engineer with a strong frontend focus. You will design and implement intuitive user interfaces, ensure high‑quality user experiences, and manage data interactions between backend services and the front‑end application.

Key responsibilities

• Develop responsive, accessible user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Implement and maintain API integrations between frontend components and backend services.
• Apply performance optimization techniques and ensure cross‑device compatibility.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate design concepts into functional code.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests for frontend features.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a related field or a Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of professional experience.
• Three or more years of experience in professional software development.
• Strong understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles.
• Ability to work in a collaborative academic research environment.

Required skills

• JavaScript and TypeScript (expert level)
• React.js with Redux or Context API, and/or Vue.js with Vuex or Pinia
• HTML5, CSS3, SASS/SCSS
• Modern build tools such as Webpack, Vite, or Parcel
• Testing frameworks like Jest, Cypress, or Playwright
• CSS frameworks including Tailwind CSS, Material‑UI, or Bootstrap
