Frontend Engineer

About the role

Layer is building modern accounting and bookkeeping tools that integrate directly into the software SMBs use every day. As a Frontend Engineer you will help create the user‑facing experience of this platform, turning complex financial workflows into intuitive web interfaces.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain React components for the accounting platform.
• Collaborate with backend engineers building Kotlin‑based APIs to deliver end‑to‑end features.
• Write unit and integration tests using Kotest and JUnit to ensure code quality.
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines powered by GitHub Actions and containerized deployments on ECS.
• Monitor performance and reliability with Betterstack and Sentry, and iterate based on data.
• Contribute to product decisions, ownership of features, and help shape the team’s engineering culture.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience on strong software teams building new products.
• Track record of growth in team leadership or taking ownership of features.
• Curiosity about both technical challenges and business problems.
• Ability to balance competing priorities and think from first principles and customer needs.
• Enjoyment of the startup journey and a desire to make teammates better.
