Front-End Web Developer (CMS & Digital Experience)

About the role

Empire State University is seeking a detail‑oriented Front‑End Web Developer to join its Marketing and Creative Services team. You will be responsible for creating and optimizing user‑facing web experiences on the university’s public website, which runs on the Modern Campus CMS platform.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain responsive, accessible, and user‑friendly web pages using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript within Modern Campus CMS.
• Build and extend reusable templates, components, and content blocks from wireframes, mockups, and design system standards.
• Collaborate with designers, content creators, and marketing stakeholders to translate business and user needs into effective web solutions.
• Ensure consistency with university branding, design systems, and digital standards across all web properties.
• Troubleshoot layout inconsistencies, cross‑browser compatibility issues, and performance concerns.
• Optimize pages for WCAG 2.1 accessibility, SEO, and overall usability.
• Support ongoing site improvements through audits, testing, and iterative enhancements.
• Document templates, components, and CMS workflows to aid scalability and governance.

Required profile

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Web Development, Computer Science, Digital Media, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least three years of professional front‑end web development experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain visual and brand consistency.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non‑technical teams.
