Freelance Legal Interpreters, Translators & Editors

About the role

Advanced Automation Corporation (AAC) is seeking freelance Legal Interpreters, Translators and Editors to support its language services division. You will provide high-quality interpretation, translation and editing services in the legal field. The position is remote, with flexible hours and competitive compensation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide interpretation during legal proceedings, including meetings, depositions, hearings and trials.
• Translate legal documents such as contracts, court documents and legal correspondence accurately and efficiently.
• Edit and proofread translated documents for accuracy, clarity and correct legal terminology.
• Keep all interpreted and translated materials confidential and secure.
• Work with project managers and other language professionals to meet deadlines and client needs.
• Stay current on legal terminology and industry best practices, and keep improving your language skills.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship is required by the terms of AAC's contract with the customer.
• At least three years of professional interpretation, translation or editing of complex and technical subject matter, including legal, medical or scientific.
• Familiarity with legal and technical terminology.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree a plus.
• Active certification (e.g., court-certified interpreter) or registration for federal or state court interpretation.
• Membership in, or certification by, the ATA or NAJIT highly desired.
• Active Public Trust or higher government clearance a plus.

Required skills

• Translators/editors: proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel; experience with Trados and CAT tools a plus.
• Interpreters: ability to use virtual platforms such as WebEx, MS Teams and Zoom for video remote interpreting.
