FPGA Engineer IV – Advanced Controls & AI/ML

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductor and display technologies. The FPGA Engineer IV will work on cutting‑edge embedded systems that combine processor cores and programmable logic to deliver advanced controls and AI/ML algorithms at the edge of semiconductor equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test complex FPGA‑based systems on chip and heterogeneous processing architectures with a focus on reliability and scalability.
• Develop IP cores and accompanying software from the ground up, leveraging Xilinx (AMD) toolsets and high‑level synthesis.
• Translate global customer requirements into detailed design specifications and provide risk assessments for alternative solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex software and programmable‑logic issues, including FPGA timing analysis and closure techniques.
• Mentor junior engineers and communicate status updates to internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of product development experience in embedded systems and FPGA design.
• Proven ability to work in global, cross‑functional teams and manage stakeholder expectations.

Required skills

• Xilinx (AMD) FPGA toolset and device families.
• RTL design in VHDL and High‑Level Synthesis.
• Python and TCL scripting in a Linux environment.
• Embedded C/C++ firmware development.
• Agile CI/CD DevOps practices.
• Signal‑processing theory and implementation (filters, transforms, synchronization, estimation).
• FPGA timing analysis/closure techniques.
