Founding Security Engineer

About the role

As Odyssey’s Founding Security Engineer you will own the company’s security posture from day one. You will shape strategy, build security programs from the ground up, and embed best‑practice controls across the entire technology stack and product suite. This high‑visibility role directly influences how we protect customers, vendors, and employees while supporting rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a comprehensive security strategy aligned with regulatory and operational requirements.
• Design, implement, and continuously improve security programs, policies, and incident‑response processes.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams to embed security controls into all phases of development and deployment.
• Conduct risk assessments, threat modeling, and security reviews for new features and integrations.
• Monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents, ensuring timely remediation and post‑mortem analysis.
• Maintain compliance with relevant standards and guide the organization through audits.

Required profile

• Proven experience building security functions in fast‑moving technology environments.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, high‑growth settings with a strong sense of ownership.
• Excellent communication skills to influence cross‑functional teams and senior leadership.
• Passion for protecting public‑sector infrastructure and education‑focused services.
