Forensic Psychologist at Central State Hospital

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a qualified Forensic Psychologist to join Central State Hospital, the maximum‑secure forensic facility in Milledgeville. Under the supervision of the hospital forensic director, you will conduct court‑ordered forensic evaluations and contribute to treatment planning for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑trial forensic psychological evaluations to assess competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and violence risk.
• Develop and document individualized recovery and treatment plans, and facilitate group and individual therapy sessions.
• Prepare forensic reports, provide expert testimony, and supervise mental health counselors.
• Complete the state’s Competency to Stand Trial Certification within one year of hire.

Required profile

• Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA‑accredited program.
• Current Georgia license to practice psychology (temporary, provisional, or permanent acceptable).
• At least one year of experience at the Psychologist 1 level (HCP140) or equivalent.

Required skills

• Knowledge of abnormal psychology, relevant statutes, and forensic psychology ethics.
• Proficiency with malingering assessment tools, intellectual testing, and personality assessment.
• Experience using forensic risk assessment instruments such as the PCL‑R and HCR‑20.
