About the role
The Food & Land Access Intern will support New Roots Garden sites across the Salt Lake Valley, helping refugees and new Americans connect with community gardening, farming, and food‑access programs. This role blends community outreach, program coordination, and hands‑on garden work to promote healthy food access and integration.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver garden orientation materials covering seasonal rules, basic gardening techniques, and seed distribution.
- Conduct outreach, collect applications, and assist clients in accessing garden plots.
- Facilitate communication, trainings, and meetings with gardeners, farmers, and volunteers.
- Support the planning, construction, and maintenance of garden and farm infrastructure.
- Participate in workdays for land preparation, infrastructure projects, and seasonal planting.
- Research and connect clients with community resources, food pantries, and supply deliveries.
- Gather data on community needs and evaluate program impact on food access and consumption habits.
Required profile
- Strong interest in community gardening, food security, and refugee integration.
- Ability to communicate effectively with limited‑English speakers and diverse cultural groups.
- Motivation to learn about the benefits of agricultural programs for newcomer populations.
- Organizational skills and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
