Fire Coordinator I

About the role

The Fire Coordinator I supports Texas A&M Forest Service by building capacity with volunteer, combination, and municipal fire departments, delivering training, grants, and assistance programs, and responding to wildland and all‑hazard incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver capacity‑building programs, including VFD assistance, insurance risk pools, fire risk assessments, aviation support, and training coordination.
• Serve as an emergency responder for wildland fires and all‑hazard incidents, meeting physical fitness standards and maintaining 24/7 communication.
• Promote mutual‑aid agreements, develop regional wildfire strike teams and incident management teams, and coordinate with the Regional Operations Chief.
• Maintain equipment, complete required trainings, and ensure accountability for agency property.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or internal eligibility criteria; preferred emphasis in Natural Resources, Fire Science, Emergency Management, or related fields.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 180 days).
• Ability to travel for trainings and meetings, and to reside within 30 minutes of the duty station.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Wildland firefighting skills, including use of hand tools, personal protective equipment, water delivery equipment, and fire engine operations.
• NWCG firefighter training and NFPA 1001, 1021, 1041 certifications (preferred).
