Fire Alarm Electrical Engineer – UL/FM Certification Lead

About the role

Hochiki is seeking an advanced‑level Fire Alarm Electrical Engineer to lead UL and FM Approvals certification and regulatory compliance for fire alarm and life‑safety systems. The role acts as a technical bridge between certification bodies, Hochiki America, and global engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical interface with UL engineers for fire alarm control panels and related accessories.
• Lead and support panel‑level and system‑level testing activities, including test configuration preparation and on‑site or remote witnessing.
• Prepare and review UL submission packages such as schematics, wiring diagrams, labeling, installation manuals, and technical documentation.
• Provide technical leadership for certification under UL 864, UL 268, FM Approvals, and applicable NFPA standards.
• Interpret regulatory requirements early in development and proactively identify certification risks.
• Evaluate hardware and firmware to ensure compliance and performance.

Required profile

• Advanced/Expert level experience with fire alarm and life‑safety systems.
• Proven track record in UL and FM Approvals certification processes.
• Strong knowledge of UL 864, UL 268, FM Approvals and NFPA standards.
• Ability to work across international teams (U.S., Japan, U.K.) and travel occasionally.
• Hybrid work arrangement with on‑site presence at technical centres in Buena Park, CA or Chicago, IL.
