Finishing Front Line Supervisor

About the role

Kennedy Valve, a member of the McWane family of companies, is a gray and ductile iron foundry and machining and assembly company in Elmira, New York. The Finishing Supervisor is a frontline manufacturing leader responsible for the safe, efficient and disciplined execution of production operations in a union manufacturing environment. The role provides direct leadership and operational oversight of assigned production areas, with a strong daily presence on the production floor.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate staffing and labor balancing, keep production boards and shift performance data accurate, and communicate with Scheduling, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain
• Lead daily production execution, drive schedule attainment, labor efficiency and throughput, and develop recovery plans when production falls behind
• Lead daily safety huddles, enforce safety policies, and keep the production area clean and safe
• Work with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering on defects, scrap and rework, and review scrap, downtime and losses daily
• Manage unionized hourly Team Members, give daily expectations, coach and follow up, and handle attendance tracking, corrective action and disciplinary procedures
• Support continuous improvement, use visual management and operational metrics, and keep accurate production and downtime records

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor's degree in manufacturing, industrial technology or a related field preferred
• At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in manufacturing
• Understanding of machining, mechanical assembly and production workflows; familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement
• Knowledge of safety standards and OSHA regulations, and ability to read technical drawings, blueprints and work instructions
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings or weekends
• Physical ability to stand and move around the floor, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and work in a noisy, dusty environment wearing PPE
