About the role

The Financial Forensic Auditor supports the Financial Investigative Services Division of the ATF by conducting in‑depth financial investigations that aid criminal cases. This GS‑12 position provides expert analysis of financial data, prepares investigative reports, and trains personnel on investigative techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Advise ATF Special Agents and federal, state, and local prosecutors on financial findings, sources, and uses of funds.
• Plan, execute, and document financial investigations of individuals or entities suspected of criminal activity.
• Prepare detailed reports, exhibits, and charts that summarize investigative results for various stakeholders.
• Research and analyze relevant databases and financial records to generate investigative leads.
• Deliver formal and informal training on financial investigative methods to ATF and non‑ATF staff.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; selective service registration for eligible males.
• Pass a drug screening and background investigation; meet all time‑in‑grade requirements.
• Agree to sign a mobility agreement as part of ATF’s career development policy.
• Possess a degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours may be business law), or an equivalent combination of education and four years of accounting experience.
