About the role

The Financial Counseling Specialist provides personalized financial guidance to patients and families at UAMS Health Benton/Bryant. The role ensures patients understand their billing information, insurance coverage, and available payment options while supporting the institution’s financial integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients’ financial situations and explain billing statements, insurance benefits, and payment responsibilities.
• Develop and communicate individualized payment plans, including assistance with financial aid and charity care.
• Coordinate with insurance companies, billing departments, and clinical staff to resolve billing issues.
• Maintain accurate patient financial records in compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Provide education on financial policies and answer patient inquiries in a courteous manner.
• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, health administration, business, or a related field.
• Experience in medical financial counseling, billing, or patient financial services preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly.
• Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, insurance verification, and relevant regulations.
• Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to handle confidential information responsibly.
