Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller reports directly to the CEO and is a member of the Leadership Team, providing strategic financial leadership for a nonprofit mental health organization.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations and monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial reporting.
• Develop and coordinate annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring budget‑to‑actual performance.
• Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support executive leadership and strategic decision‑making.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting, tax, grant, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage grantor contracts, cost allocation, reimbursement requests, and external audits.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash management, and payroll functions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit or similarly regulated environments.
• Experience supervising finance or administrative staff and managing external audits.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit and grant‑funded financial operations, including Uniform Guidance requirements.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting and payroll systems.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management and internal controls.
