Financial Controller

About the role

Windward, a global maritime intelligence leader, is expanding its U.S. finance presence. We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to act as the local finance hub, partnering directly with senior business leaders and the global finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ongoing financial reporting for the U.S. entity in coordination with the global Finance team.
• Serve as the primary finance point of contact for senior U.S. business leaders, including Sales VPs, providing insight for decision‑making.
• Own financial controls, month‑end/quarter‑end close processes, and ensure compliance with U.S. regulatory requirements.
• Oversee and manage U.S. payroll and benefits processes.
• Maintain NetSuite entries, controls, and reporting.
• Partner with the centralized Finance team on reconciliations and process alignment.
• Identify risks and drive improvements to internal controls within U.S. operations.
• Implement and manage U.S. sales tax processes, including nexus analysis, registration, filing, and ongoing compliance.

Required profile

• CPA certification (mandatory).
• 4‑6 years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting role.
• Proven ability to work independently and confidently with senior executives.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working cross‑culturally with a global finance organization.
• Flexibility to work occasional extended hours.
• Based in Washington, DC, with the ability to be in the office at least three days per week.
