Financial Controller

About the role

Waterloo Turf is seeking a hands‑on Financial Controller to own the financial backbone of its rapidly expanding franchise network. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, royalty collection, and smooth onboarding of new franchise owners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end close, prepare financial statements, and maintain the general ledger.
• Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bonuses, and commissions.
• Develop cash‑flow models, budgeting, and ad‑hoc reporting for leadership.
• Coordinate tax filings with external advisors and enforce internal controls.
• Track, calculate, invoice, and collect royalty and technology fees across the franchise network.
• Ensure revenue recognition for franchise fees under ASC 606.
• Oversee franchisee financial compliance and flag discrepancies.
• Handle financial setup, invoicing, and collection for new franchise owners.
• Build scalable finance processes as the unit count grows.

Required profile

• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, including at least 2 years in a controller or senior accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition.
• Experience with franchise finance, royalty tracking, and compliance monitoring.
