Financial Controller

About the role

Empathy is seeking a Financial Controller to join its Finance team. You will ensure accurate financial operations, support payroll and benefits, and partner with cross‑functional teams to drive data‑driven decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with monthly, quarterly and year‑end close, including journal entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure data accuracy across departments.
• Prepare internal financial reports, forecasts and variance analyses.
• Lead US payroll processing in coordination with the PEO and internal stakeholders.
• Manage state and local tax filings and registrations.
• Partner with the Employer of Record and other external providers for global workforce finance.
• Design, administer and analyse incentive compensation plans for Sales, Customer Success and other GTM teams.
• Collaborate with RevOps on Salesforce data quality, reporting and operational workflows.
• Work with Marketing to analyse performance metrics, campaign ROI and key business KPIs.

Required profile

• CPA or CPA‑track candidate.
• Experience in a startup, high‑growth or SaaS environment.
• Familiarity with expense platforms or close software.
• Experience with international payroll or global EOR/PEO partners.
• Comfort handling multi‑state tax compliance.
