Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead Spencer’s finance function, ensuring accurate reporting, robust internal controls, and effective budgeting to support strategic decisions. Reporting to senior leadership, this role oversees all accounting activities and serves as the primary financial liaison for auditors and regulators.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Manage accounting operations including accounts payable, receivable, payroll and general ledger.
• Oversee vendor management, cash flow, banking relationships and disbursements.
• Develop, monitor and update budgets, forecasts and long‑term financial plans.
• Lead year‑end close processes and coordinate with external tax preparers.
• Ensure compliance with tax laws, GAAP, and other financial regulations.
• Maintain and improve internal controls and financial processes.
• Analyse financial data, provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
• Coordinate external audits and act as the main point of contact for auditors, banks and regulators.
• Supervise and mentor the Finance and Accounting team.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably in a startup environment.
• Proven leadership experience managing finance teams.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards and tax regulations.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting and strategic financial planning.
• Excellent analytical, communication and organizational abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
