Financial Controller

About the role

We are an independent publishing company based in El Segundo, looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead our finance function. The role blends financial analysis, accounting, reporting, and cross‑department collaboration in a fast‑growing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and analyses.
• Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Editorial and other teams to ensure accurate accounting of sales activity.
• Support the ERP migration from Microsoft Great Plains to Microsoft 365 (or a successor platform), including design, testing, process updates and documentation.
• Integrate the Canadian affiliate into the ERP system by setting up a new company environment.
• Manage royalty reporting for major licensors.
• Assist invoicing and receiving workflows, including EDI‑based processes.
• Provide troubleshooting, reconciliation and reporting support to AR, AP and invoicing teams.
• Participate in long‑term departmental planning and personnel transitions.
• Improve financial controls, workflow efficiency and data accuracy.
• Work with external tax firm CBIZ as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3–5+ years of experience as a Finance Manager or in corporate accounting.
• Strong accounting fundamentals and financial reporting expertise.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, modeling).
• Experience with ERP systems and preferably system migrations.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains and Microsoft 365.
