Financial Analyst 1

About the role

The Business Operations Department of the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science is seeking a full‑time Financial Analyst 1. The analyst will support faculty and staff by delivering accurate financial reporting, budget analysis, and fiscal oversight for a range of operational accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, analyze, and maintain reports using current and historical data.
• Review operating budgets, conduct quarterly expense analyses, and provide year‑end projections.
• Manage over fifty operational accounts, ensuring monitoring, reconciliation, and expenditure control.
• Approve salary transactions, employee expense reimbursements, capital equipment acquisitions, journal entries, and purchase orders.
• Collaborate with faculty to deliver updates, forecasts, and cost‑allocation guidance.
• Serve as a resource for cost analysis, budget queries, and problem resolution across departments.
• Train faculty and staff on university financial systems and enforce related policies.
• Assist with space allocation reporting, equipment inventory, and annual equipment certification.
• Oversee fiscal management for assigned cost centers, including budgeting, billing, and year‑end closing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders.
• Experience working in a higher‑education or large‑organization finance environment is a plus.
