Financial Aid Counselor – Online

About the role

The Online Financial Aid Counselor supports Louisiana State University’s Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships by providing guidance to prospective and current students on federal and state aid programs.

Key responsibilities

• Counsel students on Federal Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, TEACH Grants, Work‑Study, Direct Loan Programs via phone, email, virtual or in‑person interactions.
• Conduct outreach to prospective and continuing students, assisting with application issues, special circumstances, and petitions for independent status.
• Resolve overaward situations, communicate adjustments to students and agencies, and process refunds.
• Participate as a rotating member of the satisfactory academic progress appeals committee.
• Assist in reviewing and certifying Direct PLUS loan requests and ensure accuracy of award letters through quality‑assurance checks.
• Support student retention by outreach to at‑risk populations, explaining resources and policies.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs and eligibility criteria.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service skills to address student concerns.
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work collaboratively under the supervision of the Senior Online Financial Aid Coordinator.
