Field Technician – ROV Operations

About the role
The Offshore Field Technician is responsible for safe and efficient operation of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and for maintaining all electronic, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems associated with the ROVs. This position is primarily vessel‑based with occasional shop work in North Charleston, SC.
Key responsibilities
- Operate ROV equipment, cameras, acoustic positioning, sonar, manipulators and launch‑and‑recovery systems.
- Pilot ROVs, evaluate environmental conditions, dock/undock from the tether management system and navigate using acoustics, sonar and video.
- Perform electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical maintenance and repairs on ROV subsystems.
- Calibrate test equipment, manage power, video and data distribution, and maintain sub‑sea electrical enclosures and tethers.
- Maintain inventory of parts and operate ancillary tooling such as line cutters and hydraulic pumps.
Required profile
- High school diploma; technical associate degree or trade school preferred; relevant experience may substitute for education.
- Current Secret government clearance (must obtain Top‑Secret).
- Willingness to work offshore in harsh weather on a rotation or call‑out basis, including international travel up to six weeks.
- Valid passport and TWIC card; ability to pass drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
Required skills
- ROV operation and navigation (acoustic positioning, sonar, video).
- Electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
- Calibration of test equipment and handling of high‑voltage power, video and data distribution systems.
- Fiber‑optic termination, sub‑sea cable splicing and maintenance of oil‑filled enclosures.
- Use of ancillary tooling such as hard‑ and soft‑line cutters, pumps and hydraulic systems.
