About the role
As a Field Service Engineer (Customer Engineer) at Applied Materials, you act as the direct liaison with customers to install, maintain, and upgrade semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical resource for corrective maintenance, equipment recoveries, and escalations on manufacturing equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, vacuum, RF, pneumatic, software, and process‑related equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Lead and coordinate equipment recovery efforts during unscheduled downtime events and critical tool outages.
- Partner with Equipment Maintenance Technicians to improve maintenance strategies and overall equipment performance.
- Support tool installation, startup, qualification, retrofit, and upgrade activities while ensuring compliance with customer and company standards.
- Maintain accurate service documentation, troubleshooting logs, and technical reports.
Required profile
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with ability to diagnose complex equipment failures.
- Working knowledge of AC/DC circuits, RF systems, vacuum systems, pneumatics, electronics, and electro‑mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, engineering drawings, and service procedures.
- Willingness to work any 12‑hour shift schedule and support occasional off‑shift, weekend, or emergency recovery activities.
Required skills
- Use of digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers for equipment diagnostics.
- AC/DC circuit analysis and RF system troubleshooting.
- Vacuum system maintenance and pneumatic system troubleshooting.
- Electronics and electro‑mechanical assembly troubleshooting.
- Root cause analysis using equipment history and data analysis.
