Field Civil Engineer

About the role

Horrocks is seeking a motivated Field Civil Engineer to lead transportation‑related construction projects from concept through completion. You will work on highways, freeways, interchanges, streets, intersections, and multi‑use trails, ensuring designs are executed to the highest quality, budget, and schedule standards.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret design plans and specifications for roadway and trail projects.
• Prepare, justify, and coordinate change orders with the Resident Engineer.
• Lead construction activities on‑site, collaborating with contractors to resolve design issues, manage RFIs, and verify quantities.
• Review and accept submittals, material certifications, and support field inspectors.
• Support project managers with client relations, stakeholder coordination, and sub‑consultant management.
• Monitor construction contracts, personnel, and budget while ensuring safety and quality.
• Maintain availability for onsite work during days, nights, and weekends as project demands require.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• Licensed Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) required; PE license a plus.
• 0‑2 years of experience in transportation engineering.
• Familiarity with multidisciplinary project teams and AASHTO roadway geometric design criteria.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Autodesk civil design software.
• Proficiency with Bentley civil design software.
• Knowledge of AASHTO roadway geometric design standards.
• Experience in drainage design and/or traffic engineering (preferred).
• Strong command of MS Office applications.
