About the role
Forged Fiber is seeking a Fiber Tech II – Splicing Technician to install, splice, test and troubleshoot fiber optic cable across construction, maintenance and emergency projects. The position is based at 25 30th St NE, Auburn, WA and involves both aerial and underground work.
Key responsibilities
- Install, splice (single‑fiber, multi‑fiber, ribbon) and test fiber optic cable for new builds, maintenance and emergency restoration.
- Troubleshoot and isolate fiber faults using OTDR, optical power meters, fiber identifiers, scopes and fault finders, and document results.
- Prepare, install, audit and repair splice cases and enclosures in aerial, buried, handhole and manhole environments.
- Perform dark‑fiber, reel and continuity testing, place and test jumpers in cabinets, and conduct aerial/underground cable work.
- Read and interpret construction prints, splice diagrams, design maps and permits, and coordinate with crews and engineers to resolve outages.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent and a valid state driver’s license.
- At least 2 years of fiber splicing or telecom outside‑plant experience.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather, in confined spaces and at heights over 18 ft.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lb, stand/walk for long periods and work overtime, nights, weekends and on‑call rotations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Required skills
- Proficiency with fusion splicer, OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifiers and inspection scope.
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools for splice case installation and repair.
- Ability to read and create as‑built drawings, splice diagrams and schematics.
- Use of electronic devices for field work orders, diagnostics and documentation.
