About the role
The Family Literacy Coordinator will lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of literacy programs for students at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. This position focuses on improving reading, writing, and critical‑thinking skills to support academic success and workforce readiness for a diverse student body, including adult learners.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive literacy programs, workshops, and tutorials tailored to varied literacy levels.
- Assess student literacy needs using diagnostic tools and create individualized or group learning plans.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer tutors and peer mentors.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate literacy strategies into curricula and provide professional development.
- Select, adapt, and create instructional materials and technologies to support literacy development.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of participation, progress, and outcomes.
- Promote literacy services across the college community.
- Stay current with best practices and research in adult literacy education.
- Manage program budgets and resources.
Required profile
- Degree in Education, Adult Education, English, Reading, or a closely related field.
- Minimum three years of experience developing and delivering literacy programs, preferably in post‑secondary or adult‑education settings.
- Expertise in literacy assessment tools and instructional strategies for diverse learners.
- Experience in curriculum development and instructional material design.
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems.
- Experience in program evaluation and data analysis.
