Facilities Specialist I

About the role

The Facilities Specialist I supports the full‑service facility management program for Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Dallas. Working under direct supervision, the specialist ensures a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for employees and visitors by handling maintenance, repairs, and emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment.
• Monitor heating and cooling systems via the Building Management System (BMS) to ensure proper operation.
• Conduct inspections and maintenance of mechanical equipment, utility systems, buildings, and vehicles.
• Operate and maintain landscape machinery, vehicles, and shop tools safely.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Create and manage work order requests using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Assist with purchase orders for parts, supplies, and equipment.
• Serve as the primary contact for after‑hours building emergencies and respond promptly on‑site.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
• At least two years of related facilities maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 45 days of hire.
• Knowledge of safety procedures in the facilities maintenance industry.
• Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet applications, and audio/visual systems.
• Basic building maintenance skills including electrical/lighting repair, plumbing, HVAC repair and preventive maintenance, carpentry, and general construction.
