Facilities Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to ensure the reliability and safety of its building systems. You will work on a diverse range of equipment, from electrical distribution to HVAC and fire‑life safety, supporting both data‑center and cash‑processing operations.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution components such as UPS, motor controllers, breakers, relays, sensors, switches, conduits and wiring.
• Maintain environmental control equipment including chillers, AC units, humidifiers, compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, pumps and associated piping.
• Service specialty building systems such as fire/life safety, access control, fire suppression, kitchen equipment and currency‑residue removal.
• Assist service vendors, support construction projects and uphold cleanliness standards in all work areas.
• Respond to employee service requests for temperature adjustments, lighting, plumbing, lock hardware and carpet installations.
• Perform preventive maintenance rounds, energy‑efficiency evaluations and equipment checks each shift.
• Create purchase order requisitions, communicate with manufacturers and obtain technical support for parts and repairs.

Required profile

• Completed safety certification and ongoing safety training.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with building engineers, project managers and contractors.
• Strong communication skills for documenting service requests and coordinating with vendors.

Required skills

• Electrical distribution knowledge (UPS, motor controllers, breakers, relays, sensors, switches, wiring).
• HVAC and environmental control expertise (chillers, compressors, fans, pumps, valves, VFDs).
• Building automation system operation (JCI MUI/Metasys).
• Fire/life safety system maintenance.
• Proficiency with mechanical and electronic testing equipment and hand/power tools.
