Fabrication/Welder Mechanic

About the role

3M is seeking a Fabrication/Welder Mechanic to join its Minnesota production team. You will work hands‑on in a shop environment, collaborating with engineering and maintenance groups to keep plant equipment reliable and efficient.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate and modify equipment using drawings and print packages.
• Perform welding, rigging, millwright work, and move plant equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment problems.
• Assist engineering on equipment upgrades and reliability projects.
• Execute predictive and preventative maintenance, maintain documentation and spare parts, and conduct root‑cause failure analysis.
• Use PC Maintenance Management system tools for planning and scheduling.
• Read and interpret mechanical blueprints and symbols.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age.
• Technical degree, diploma or certificate in a mechanical craft, or a minimum of 540 documented military training hours.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules, overtime and on‑call after‑hours.
• Future certification for PIVs, respirators and aerial lifts.
• Ability to obtain welding certifications as required.

Required skills

• MIG, TIG and plasma welding of mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
• Operation of metal brake, shear, drill press, band saw, hydraulic press, grinding and finishing equipment.
• Rigging and millwright techniques.
• Predictive and preventative maintenance practices.
• Root‑cause failure analysis.
• Use of PC Maintenance Management system tools.
• Mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
• Reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints.
