External Communications Associate

About the role

The External Communications Associate will help shape and share Macy’s story across the nation. Working on both operations‑focused and brand‑focused initiatives, you will support media relations, crisis management, and storytelling that highlights the colleague experience and iconic brand moments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term communication strategies for partnerships, product launches, and events.
• Build and maintain relationships with traditional and non‑traditional media in national and priority markets.
• Create and edit press materials, media advisories, and messaging; pitch stories for placement.
• Provide media training for executives and support thought‑leadership initiatives.
• Manage fast‑moving communications challenges, including crisis response and reputation management.
• Collaborate with the External Communications team to track and report media results.
• Oversee multimedia assets such as media websites, materials, and photography.
• Assist with budget management and support proactive crisis mitigation efforts.

Required profile

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership.
