Export Control Director

About the role

Cowboy Space Corp. is seeking its first dedicated Export Control Director to own and scale export compliance across the organization. Reporting to the COO/CLO, you will build the compliance program from the ground up, ensuring that engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and business development operate within ITAR and EAR regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and continuously improve a company‑wide export compliance program.
• Develop policies, procedures, and internal controls for export‑controlled technologies, data, software, hardware, and services.
• Establish scalable compliance processes that support rapid growth while maintaining regulatory adherence.
• Serve as the primary internal expert on ITAR, EAR, and related export control regulations.
• Provide guidance, interpretation, and decision‑making support to engineering, operations, and supply‑chain teams.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on company activities.
• Build foundational compliance infrastructure, tools, and culture to enable future expansion.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience building export compliance programs in a fast‑moving, technical environment.
• Deep knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and related export control regulations.
• Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, day‑to‑day guidance.
• Strong partnership skills with engineers, technical leaders, and senior executives.
• Willingness to work onsite in either San Carlos, CA or Seattle, WA.
