About the role

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland seeks an Experimental Psychologist to advance research in intelligent human‑machine systems, human performance, and decision‑support technologies for national security. The role blends cognitive science, experimental methods, and AI to improve readiness and decision making.

Key responsibilities

• Support development of project deliverables and documentation.
• Collect and analyze qualitative interview data.
• Develop workflows derived from cognitive task analyses.
• Assist the software team with user‑experience tasks.
• Conduct human‑subjects research, including neurophysiological measurements and signal processing.
• Apply statistical and programming expertise to experimental data.
• Contribute to business development by identifying funding sources, drafting white papers, and engaging sponsors.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
• Experience in human‑systems integration, computational modeling of cognition, and experimental research at the AI‑human performance interface.
• Strong background in human‑subjects research protocols and neurophysiological data collection.

Required skills

• Statistical analysis (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB).
• Programming for data processing and modeling.
